Compelled to make a difference in the lives of children, Jeff Gordon founded The Jeff Gordon Foundation in 1999. After meeting hundreds of children through visits to children’s hospitals and granting wishes through the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Jeff searched for a way to give back to the children in his own community. Nothing quite captured his passion for children in need of medical treatment and care until 2005 when NorthEast Medical Center, now known as Carolina Medical Center-NorthEast (CMC-NE), presented an opportunity for Jeff and his Foundation to get involved in the building of a children’s hospital. After careful consideration, Jeff and the Foundation began a partnership with NorthEast Medical Center. This relationship focused on building a children’s hospital that provided highly specialized treatment using state-of-the-art equipment. The hospital setting would be a nurturing, healing environment, staffed by the areas most talented and caring medical professionals. After a year and a half of construction, the hospital opened its doors to patients in December 2006. The hospital treats pediatric patients from birth to age 18 in a peaceful, serene environment with a nature theme. Small details within the design such as water features, texture and color help promote an enhanced healing environment and assist in decreasing the stress and anxiety for pediatric patients and their families. On the pediatric floor you will find twenty-eight infant, child and adolescent patient rooms also included as part of the children’s hospital is the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Child Advocacy Center (CAC) and the Pediatric Pavilion. The Jeff Gordon Children’s Hospital is located just a few short miles from Hendrick Motorsports. By having a children’s hospital with highly specialized care in the community it allow pediatric patients and their families to remain close to home rather than having to travel outside the region to receive care. With this priority in mind The Jeff Gordon Foundation and the hospital will continue to work together to ensure that all pediatric patients receive the highest quality of care possible both now and in the future.
